¡Me encanta hacer de compras!

¡Me encanta hacer de compras en Oviedo! Hay muchas tiendas aquí que no tienen en Salt Lake City. La semana pasada, mis amigas y yo fuimos a Caille Uria para ir de compras. Mi tienda favorita, H&M, es muy asequible aquí. También hay la tienda de ropa, Zara. La ropa en Zara es muy mona, pero es una poca más cara. Me gusta comprar un postre o helado y paseo en las calles en el área. También me gusta ir de escaparates porque no tengo mucho dinero y algunas tiendas pueden muy caras.

El domingo pasado Olivia y yo nos levantamos muy temprano para ir al mercadillo cerca de la Catedral. El mercadillo estaba genial. Hay un mercadillo todos los domingos en Oviedo. Hay la ropa, las joyas, las bolsas, las flores, y más. Es muy divertido mirar todo, pero hay muchos trastos también. Es mejor ir al mercadillo cuando el tiempo está favorable porque lo está en el aire libre. Cuando nosotros fuimos, llovió y no estaba muy divertido.

Estoy sorprendido ir a las tiendas en San Sebastien en nuestro fin de semana libre. Mi amiga vivó en San Sebastien por seis meses y me dice donde están las mejores tiendas.

Nuestro nuevo amigo, David...

Ésta foto (de Brandon) mira nuestro nuevo amigo David. Es neozelandés. Nosotros fuimos al bar con él una noche en Madrid. También el cocinó la cena para nosotros en nuestro albergue. ¡Estaba muy deliciosa!

Es verdad que Madrid nunca duerma...

Tuve una experiencia interesante en mi primer día en Madrid. Por primera vez, pude hablar en español solamente. Mi hermana y yo tomamos un taxi muy caro de la estación de ferrocarril a nuestro albergue. Nos costó €25 para quince minutos.

Nos reunimos con otros estudiantes de la Universidad de Utah. A nuestro albergue, conocimos un hombre de Nueva Zelanda. Se llama David. Estaba muy divertido y simpático. Entonces, fuimos al museo Reina Sofia mirar al Guernica. ¡Estaba muy precioso!

Entonces, David cocinó la cena para nosotros. ¡La pasta estaba muy deliciosa! Me sorprendí cómo barata la comida es al supermercado en España.

Después la cena, decidimos salir y explorar la ciudad. Hay muchas cosas hacer en una ciudad grande, especialmente por la noche. Fuimos a un bar y bebimos cerveza tostada y sangría. Entonces fuimos baile a unas pocas discotecas. ¡Estaba muy divertido! A sobre tres en la mañana, ¡estabamos muy cansados! Fuimos al albergue, pero la fiesta en Madrid continuó. Es verdad que Madrid nunca duerma.

Before Spain...

     I am very excited to spend the next five weeks in Spain!  I have spent the last ten days in Germany and France, but I know that Spain will be very different.  I am hoping that it will be a little bit less of a culture shock because I have at least some knowledge of the language and culture.
     I am not sure what Spain will be like, but I know that it will be a new experience that I will be able to learn a lot from.  This trip is my first experience in a foreign country for an extended period of time.  I have already learned so much about myself and what I'm capable of, but I know that the next five weeks will be even more of an eye opener for me.
     Surprisingly, my biggest fear and the thing that I am most excited for happen to be the same thing:  staying with a host family.  Until now, I have always had some sort of comfort zone that made me feel safe.  I am afraid to stay alone with a host family, but I am excited because I know that I will learn a lot about myself and what I'm capable of--and learn a lot of Spanish simultaneously.  All in all, I hope to gain a better understanding of not only the Spanish language, but also the Spanish culture.  I also hope to gain a better understanding of myself and what I am capable of.  Bring on the new experiences!
